Siliya Group and Lanran Tech Achieve Resourceful Wastewater Treatment and Green Production
As a leading producer of regenerated cellulose fibers in Southwest China, Yibin Siliya Group Co., Ltd. requires large quantities of sodium hydroxide and sulfuric acid for its alkaline dissolution and acid-washing processes. The treatment and disposal of sodium sulfate decahydrate, a by-product, have presented environmental and economic challenges due to additional processing costs and potential environmental risks. To address this, Siliya Group partnered with Lanran Tech to implement bipolar membrane electrodialysis (BPED) technology, effectively converting sodium sulfate decahydrate into reusable sulfuric acid and sodium hydroxide with high efficiency and low energy consumption. This eliminates disposal costs, transforming the by-product into a valuable resource and reducing raw material procurement expenses.
Advantages of Lanran Tech’s Bipolar Membrane Technology
1.Efficient Resource Recovery: Lanran’s BPED technology enables the conversion of sodium sulfate into recyclable sulfuric acid and sodium hydroxide, promoting circular resource use. Initially, Siliya Group piloted a daily treatment capacity of 8 tons. With optimal equipment performance, this capacity has progressively expanded to 96 tons/day, meeting the cyclical needs of their production process. This step significantly lowers reliance on external raw materials, reducing costs and delivering substantial economic benefits amid rising caustic soda prices.
2.Energy Conservation and Environmental Friendliness: By treating approximately 40,000 tons of sodium sulfate annually, Siliya’s facility now achieves self-sufficiency in caustic soda and sulfuric acid for viscose fiber production, establishing a closed-loop production system. This shift has reduced sodium sulfate discharge by around 90,000 tons per year and minimized potential environmental impacts associated with traditional waste treatment processes.
3.System Stability and Reliability: Lanran’s system utilizes advanced ion exchange membranes to ensure high ion selectivity and stability, offering long equipment life with low maintenance costs. Since its deployment in August 2017, the BPED system has operated stably under high-salinity and high-load conditions, continuously delivering significant economic, environmental, and social benefits for Siliya Group.
Lanran Tech’s customized BPED solution has enabled Siliya to cut production costs and achieve resourceful wastewater management with high efficiency, low energy consumption, and long-term durability. By annually reducing sodium sulfate discharge by approximately 90,000 tons, the project has notably improved local ecological conditions and the quality of the Yangtze River’s upper reaches. The success of this initiative not only supports Siliya’s green manufacturing and sustainability goals but also sets a benchmark for sustainable production and circular economy practices in the viscose fiber industry.
Yongtong Lou, Chairman of Lanran Tech, commented, “Our collaboration with Siliya Group reflects our commitment to sustainable development. By leveraging our innovative BPED technology, we transform industrial challenges into opportunities for environmental protection and resource efficiency.”
