Quzhou Huayou and Lanran Tech Partner for Sustainable Ternary Precursor Wastewater Treatment
The ternary precursor industry plays a vital role in powering the new energy revolution, with applications in lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles and energy storage systems. However, the production process generates significant volumes of sodium sulfate-rich wastewater, which poses environmental and operational challenges. On average, manufacturing one ton of ternary precursor produces 15 cubic meters of mother liquor and 10 cubic meters of wash water, containing high concentrations of sodium sulfate, ammonia nitrogen, and trace metals. These waste streams not only increase treatment costs but also hinder the industry’s sustainable development.
To address these challenges, Quzhou Huayou collaborated with Lanran Tech to implement an innovative bipolar membrane electrodialysis (BPED) solution. This technology enables the efficient conversion of sodium sulfate wastewater into reusable sulfuric acid and caustic soda, establishing a circular economy while reducing environmental impact.
Project Outcomes and Impact
The project has delivered significant environmental, economic, and operational benefits:
Resource Recycling: Sodium sulfate wastewater is efficiently converted into reusable sulfuric acid and caustic soda, reintegrated into production for wastewater pH adjustment, precursor manufacturing, and other processes.
Economic Efficiency: The recovered caustic soda can be concentrated and used in precursor production, while the sulfuric acid can be reused in extraction or sold, creating additional value.
Sustainability: The BPED system minimizes hazardous waste discharge and reduces reliance on external acid and alkali supplies, significantly lowering environmental impact and transportation risks associated with hazardous chemicals.
This collaboration highlights the transformative potential of Lanran Tech’s advanced wastewater treatment technologies. By converting waste into valuable resources, the project supports green manufacturing practices and addresses critical challenges in the ternary precursor sector.
Lou Yontong, CEO of Lanran Tech, commented:
“This project showcases how Lanran Tech’s BPED technology turns challenges into opportunities. By enabling resource recovery from high-salinity wastewater, we help our partners achieve sustainability goals while unlocking economic value. This is the future of green manufacturing.”
