Description
Flow batteries are high-performance energy storage systems consisting of cell stacks, electrolytes, storage and supply units, and control systems. They operate using independently circulating positive and negative electrolytes, offering high capacity, broad operational environments, and long cycle life. Membranes are a critical component, positioned between two half-cells to isolate electrochemical reactions, control current flow, and prevent short circuits.
Process
- Electrolytes are stored in separate tanks for positive and negative solutions. These solutions act as the medium for storing and releasing energy.
- Positive and negative electrolytes circulate through the cell stack during charge and discharge cycles.
- The membrane ensures ionic exchange while maintaining separation of the electrolytes. This ensures efficient energy transfer and avoids cross-contamination or short circuits.
