Lithium Hydroxide Production
Conversion of Li₂SO₄ to LiOH·H₂O
Description
Lanran’s Bipolar Membrane Electrodialysis (BPED) converts lithium salts (e.g., Li₂SO₄, LiCl) into battery-grade monohydrate lithium hydroxide (LiOH·H₂O) and acid (H₂SO₄ or HCl). The process is clean, short, and produces no solid waste.
Process
- Refined lithium salt solution enters a three-chamber BPED system.
- Bipolar membranes split water into H⁺ and OH⁻.
- Li⁺ combines with OH⁻ to form LiOH; SO₄²⁻ or Cl⁻ combines with H⁺ to form corresponding acids.
- LiOH solution is crystallized into high-purity monohydrate LiOH.
