Lanran CCUS Application Solutions – 50,000 t/a CO₂ Capture at Cement Plant
Case: 50,000 t/a CO₂ Capture at Cement Plant at Anhui
Background: In 2021, a 50,000 t/a CO₂ capture and purification demonstration project at the cement plant in Anhui. This was one of the world’s first full-scale CCUS applications in the cement industry, setting a benchmark for low-carbon transformation in cement manufacturing.
The project initially used an alternative supplier’s electrodialysis stacks for amine purification. Over time, these units struggled to maintain low Heat Stable Salts (HSS) levels, which affected solvent performance and increased operating costs.
Lanran Solution: In July 2024, the cement plant replaced the original ED stacks with Lanran’s ED416-130 electrodialysis units. In an electric field, unwanted ions (e.g., HSS anions such as formate, sulfate, oxalate) migrate across ion exchange membranes into a concentrate stream, while active amines (e.g., MDEA – Methyldiethanolamine) are retained for reuse. This continuous process restores solvent absorption and regeneration capacity, without requiring chemical additives.
Technology Advantages:
✔ Successful retrofit upgrade proving Lanran’s ED reliability.
✔ Low operating cost vs. resin replacement or thermal reclaiming.
✔ Extended solvent life and improved process stability.
Results & Impact:
Amine solvent stabilized with HSS maintained at <1%.
CO₂ capture efficiency fully restored.
The system continues to run stably with reduced corrosion and foaming issues.
