Bipolar Membrane Electrodialysis for High-Purity Molybdic Acid Production

Molybdic acid is an important molybdenum chemical intermediate widely used in catalysts and other high-value applications. With increasing demand for high-purity molybdic acid, producers are looking for cleaner and more resource-efficient ways to convert molybdate salts into valuable products.

Traditional chemical conversion processes may require external acid or alkali and generate additional salt streams. Bipolar Membrane Electrodialysis (BPED) offers an alternative approach by generating H⁺ and OH⁻ through water dissociation, enabling the conversion of dissolved salts into acid and alkaline streams.

LANRAN BPED Solution for Molybdate Conversion

In this project, dissolved ammonium molybdate and sodium molybdate are used as feedstocks.

LANRAN’s BPED system converts the feed solution into a molybdic acid solution and an alkaline stream. The molybdic acid solution is further processed to produce high-purity molybdic acid, while the generated alkali is returned to the upstream process for feedstock dissolution.

Molybdate Salts → BPED → Molybdic Acid Solution + Alkali → High-Purity Molybdic Acid

This process design makes the generated alkali part of the production cycle rather than simply treating it as a separate output, creating opportunities for chemical reuse and improved process integration.

From Technology to Industrial Application

The project is equipped with a containerized BPED system, designed and manufactured by LANRAN for industrial application. LANRAN’s technical team is supporting the on-site installation and commissioning of the system.

More importantly, the project demonstrates the potential of BPED to integrate molybdate conversion, downstream purification, and alkaline reuse within a single production process.

By reducing the need for external chemical inputs and enabling internal alkali reuse, BPED offers a promising approach to more resource-efficient molybdic acid production and molybdenum chemical processing.
