Lanran’s BPED System Achieves Stable Operation at High-Altitude Lithium Salt Lake Project in Xizang

In May 2026, Lanran’s Bipolar Membrane Electrodialysis (BPED) resource recovery system successfully commenced operation at the Mami Co Salt Lake lithium project in Ngari, Xizang, at an altitude of 4,480 meters. Following system commissioning and process optimization, the plant has entered a stable continuous operation phase.

Integrated with a 50,000 t/y lithium carbonate production base, the project utilizes Lanran’s BPED technology to convert sodium chloride-rich by-product streams generated during lithium extraction into reusable hydrochloric acid (HCl) and sodium hydroxide (NaOH). This closed-loop process reduces waste generation, lowers chemical procurement costs, and supports more sustainable lithium production.

Despite the challenges of high-altitude construction and operation, the project team successfully completed equipment installation, system integration, commissioning, and performance verification. On June 2, the BPED system achieved stable acid and alkali production, with product quality exceeding design requirements.

Supported by a centralized DCS control system, the plant continuously optimizes operating parameters to ensure stable product quality and long-term operational reliability under demanding plateau conditions.

As another successful application of Lanran’s proven salt lake lithium extraction solutions, the Mami Co project highlights the maturity and industrial readiness of Bipolar Membrane Electrodialysis technology. The system enables on-site conversion of waste salt streams into valuable acids and alkalis for internal reuse, helping lithium producers improve resource utilization, reduce chemical consumption, and advance low-carbon, circular production practices.

As a specialist in membrane separation and resource recovery technologies, Lanran remains committed to advancing sustainable solutions for lithium extraction, battery recycling, industrial wastewater treatment, and acid/alkali recovery applications worldwide.
