Lithium Recovery from Spent LFP Batteries with Electrodialysis

Recycling spent lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries helps recover valuable lithium and supports more sustainable battery supply chains. Efficient lithium recovery also plays an important role in improving resource utilization.

Located in Qujing, Yunnan Province, China, this battery recycling expansion project focuses on recovering valuable resources from spent LFP batteries. The facility uses hydrometallurgical processes to extract lithium from battery materials and prepare it for reuse.

Since 2020, LANRAN has supported multiple project phases at this site. Its membrane separation solutions help improve lithium recovery and resource utilization.

For this expansion phase, LANRAN is supplying a two-stage electrodialysis (ED) system that uses semi-homogeneous ion exchange membranes.

The system is designed to purify and concentrate lithium nitrate (LiNO₃) from cathode material leaching solutions. This step supports lithium recovery in the hydrometallurgical recycling process for spent LFP batteries.

By integrating electrodialysis into the process, LANRAN helps optimize lithium solution treatment. The system also supports resource recovery and the production of lithium-containing products for downstream processing.

LANRAN shipped the electrodialysis equipment on July 18, 2026. Delivery to the project site began on July 21.

After the equipment arrived, LANRAN’s project team coordinated with on-site partners to advance installation. The work includes equipment positioning, piping installation, and system integration.

The project is progressing according to schedule, and the team is preparing for commissioning.

Once commissioned, the electrodialysis system will support lithium recovery at the recycling facility. It will also help the operator make better use of valuable resources from spent batteries.

Through ion exchange membrane technology and industrial electrodialysis solutions, LANRAN continues to support lithium recycling projects. These applications help customers improve resource utilization and advance more sustainable battery recycling processes.
